Winter glamping – A must do experience
Why it’s the perfect choice for a peaceful, cosy break

Most of us think of glamping as a summer activity. Happy children running free, family games in lush meadows and perhaps even the odd barbecue or two. Come the winter however and glamping takes a gentler turn. As the zest and fun of summer fall away with the autumn leaves, peace and quiet find a space. Long views have time to be stared at, quiet contemplation feels normal, and the woodburning stove becomes the focal point of your holiday. On a winter glamping break all of this is possible, and so much more.
Warmth, cosiness and as much fresh air as you need
There are plenty of winter camping tips out there. From sleeping bags to bobble hats, most are about keeping yourself warm. It’s all good advice but if you don’t want the hassle of wearing three layers of clothing or the cost of the latest thermal sleeping mat, a winter glamping holiday might be just what you’re looking for. Here at Strawberry Skys we have two luxurious , custom designed and built fully insulated wooden cabin “yurts” that, unlike our traditional Mongolian Yurts, we keep open all winter. With all the gentle simplicity of camping but the warmth and cosiness of home, a yurt is the ultimate antidote to winter restlessness. Wonderful for couples and singles as well as families, glamping really can give you your perfect winter break. And if your dog fancies dozing next to one of our wood burners as well, we are a dog-friendly glamping site.
Gentle lights and warm fires
Picture the scene. You arrive late but are captivated by the freshness of the air and the chill in the breeze as soon as you leave the car. Your host greets you and shows you by torchlight to your yurt. The winter skies are darker than the summer ones you’re used to, but the twinkling fairy lights beckon you forward. And as the door of your yurt opens, you feel as well as see the gentle glow from your wood burning stove. Your bed is made up with the warmest linen, your sofas are waiting to be snuggled into, your winter nest welcomes you in.
Sleep well on your winter glamping break
With Wales’ famous dark night skies, and our plush winter duvets, you’ll almost certainly sleep better here at Strawberry Skys Yurts than you do at home. In the morning your composting loo and hot shower in your private heated bathroom will be just a short stroll away, as will our fabulously sociable kitchen facilities. But you won’t need to leave the fireside to make that all-important morning cuppa. We’ve thought of that too; you’ll find all the facilities you need inside your yurt.
Snuggle up next to the fire
In fact, aside from the odd trip to the kitchen or bathroom, you might well be tempted to spend the whole of your winter glamping break inside your yurt. And you’d be very welcome to do just that. Your yurt will be stocked with firewood, and we’ll show you where our woodshed is if you need to find more. Both Cedar and Ash, our winter yurts, have windows which allow you to appreciate the view without stepping outside. If you choose Ash, you’ll even be able to admire the bright Welsh stars from the comfort of your bed.
Your yurt holiday, your way
When it comes to winter breaks, the UK might not have been your first destination idea but after a relaxing yurt day, you’ll wonder why you ever bothered with airport queues or hotel restrictions. With such a warm cosy place to relax, anything goes. Elevenses by the fire? Long afternoon snoozes? Pajamas at teatime? It’s all fine by us. With only two of our generously spaced yurts available during the winter, you’re unlikely to notice your neighbours. Unless you want to of course.
Explore or relax, it’s up to you
Have you ever been on one of those holidays where there’s ‘plenty to do’? And have you ever felt obliged to try and fit it all in? Well here at Strawberry Skys there’s no pressure to do anything. If you want to make your own fun you can but if you prefer to be still and absorb the tranquil atmosphere, please feel free. We have plenty of recommendations for pretty country walks and places to visit nearby but many of our guests love our location and facilities so much, they don’t want to leave until it’s time to go home. Whether you’re with the family or enjoying some cosy adult time, a winter glamping break could be exactly what you need. Where else could you be so warm and cosy at the same time as feeling part of the outside world?
Winter glamping fun
If you’re thinking about a winter glamping experience, you probably love being outdoors. And just because the weather is colder doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy all the usual fun of a camping holiday. At Strawberry Skys, each of our yurts has its own campfire area with seats. The bbq are packed away for winter but for those that still want to cook al-fesco can use the pizza oven or communal bbq down by the kitchen. Our custom-built Cedar Yurt even has a sheltered verandah with comfy chairs, perfect for wildlife spotting (keep an eye out for red kites), morning coffee, or a bit of afternoon reading.
