Our Glamping story

Eric And Anya In The Door Building Our First Yurt At Strawberry Skys Yurts

Setting up Strawberry Skys Yurts was a complete lifestyle transformation for us. We both lived busy lives working in London which all changed whilst camping at a music festival in 2006 when we realised we didn’t have to return to London at all and decided to try something completely different. We agreed to put our house up for sale as soon as we got home and decided to set up a smallholding and yurt camping site in Wales instead. Imagine, back then, the term “Glamping” hadn’t even been thought of!

With our house on the market, we then embarked on a mammoth journey across Wales, searching the country far and wide for the perfect yurt camping spot that combined outstanding natural beauty with fantastic, welcoming and picturesque nearby towns and villages. When we saw the smallholding near Llanfair Caereinion, Powys, we fell in love instantly, and in November 2007, just over a year after the idea first took root in our imaginations, Strawberry Skys Yurts was born.

Since then, we have not looked back. We love country life and our two sons, who were born since we set up Strawberry Skys Yurts, are enjoying the freedom of being able to play and explore the beautiful countryside and coastline of Wales.

We are passionate about glamping and glamping holidays, and were extremely proud to have Strawberry Skys Yurts included in The Guardian’s Ten Best Glamping Sites 2011 after only three years after opening. In the same year we hosted a retreat for Druids and Bards from all over the UK which remains a memorable highlight from our early years.

We love welcoming guests to Strawberry Skys Yurts and we are extremely fortunate that over a third of the guests we welcome back each season are returning guests and it is both an honour and privelege to see them return and in many cases meet their new additions as we see families grow over the years.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
